Odds and Ends

Well we didn't get much of anything done yesterday, but it was quiet, and we got some rest. I managed to get a couple of the "B" list repairs done today, the most important one being the installation of a GFCI receptacle in the shore power circuit that feeds the galley and the head. Also, Honey wanted to shock-treat the water tank and lines with chlorine, so we did that as well.

In the process of making repairs and dealing with the potable water system, we discovered a couple of new bits of information about the boat.

First, there is no secondary water tank. According to the owner's manual that we found on the boat, there should have been a 40 gallon freshwater tank in the bow, and a secondary, 30 gallon tank under the quarterberth. I found that surprising, since I knew that the battery banks were under that quarterberth.

I needed to inspect the 12-volt system anyway, so while I had it open, I checked for a water tank. Nope. Not one there. If there ever was, a previous owner must have removed it. So our ability to haul water is only a little over half of what we expected. It did simplify the shock treatment process, though.

Second, The manual only showed one house (shore power) circuit in the boat, with four standard receptacles. The boat actually has six working receptacles, so we knew something was fishy. Replacing the receptacle in the galley with a GFCI receptacle did in fact provide protection for four receptacles, including the galley and the head. Apparenty, however, a previous owner had added a second house circuit, which remains unprotected. No problem: GFCI receptacles are $15.00 or less at Home Depot.

After the flurry of activity this morning, we had lunch, and the rains came. All that made us sleepy, so we haven't done much of anything else.
