Moving Day

I've never been so tired from not working as I am this evening. Seriously, the day's work consisted principally of sitting on my duff, while I guided Event Horizon up the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway (ICW) from Daytona Beach to Palm Coast. It took about 6 hours to make the 28 miles, and I feel like I lost a fight with a Mack truck.

We left Halifax Harbour Marina this morning after filling our fuel tanks, and we immediately had to request a bridge opening at the Memorial Bridge, before proceeding further north. All in all, there were five bridges to negotiate in the Daytona Beach area, and two of them, Memorial and Main Street, were drawbridges. North of Ormond Beach, the L.B. Knox bridge is also a drawbridge, but it was out of service for automotive traffic while necessary repairs are being made, and was thus already open when we passed through. We also passed under fixed bridges at Flagler Beach and the Palm Coast Parkway before we stopped for the evening.

We didn't see much traffic on the ICW, and most of what we did see was locals, playing with their hot rod motorboats. The lone southbound sailboat we saw seemed to be in a hurry, too.

Everyone we've done business with so far, marina staff and bridge tenders, has been friendly and polite.

I'll post more as we go further.
