Something is haywire with my phone. About an hour ago, I noticed that I had missed a call. The odd thing is, it said I missed the call last Thursday, and I've pretty much had it welded to my side for the last week! Anyway, the call was from Veronica, at Two-Way, and while she didn't say exactly why, her request that I call her back, or call Charlie's cell phone, left me with a sense of foreboding.
I debated with myself about whether to return the call immediately, since I knew that she and Charlie usually didn't work on weekends, but I finally broke down and made the call. Needless to say, I didn't get either of them, so I figured to try again on Monday. Charlie, however, called me right back, and the news wasn't good.
It seems that, while maneuvering Event Horizon into my slip at the marina, as promised, they had occasion to need some reverse thrust. Most boats have a reverse, and mine was no exception, so no problem, right? Well usually, but this time the prop shaft coupler let go, and the prop disconnected itself from the transmission. In the process, it banged against the rudder, and we don't know how much damage was done there. With no thrust available, and the prop jammed against the rudder, there was no way to control the boat. There was a significant current (which was why Charlie needed reverse thrust!), so the boat proceeded to bang into something as yet unidentified, leaving a significant scar on the new paint, and damaging the new lettering on one side.
Charlie is going to pull the boat back out on Monday to assess and repair the damage, and to correct the issue with the prop shaft. I don't know yet how much this is going to cost me, or whether Event Horizon will be back in the water for our planned return trip.
I guess we'll find out soon.
