A Vessel with Potential

We had some family business to take care of in Jacksonville, between Christmas and New Years', and since we had to make the drive anyway, we decided to get a first-hand look at a boat. The most convenient one to see was a cutter-rigged Downeast 38. The boat has been left fallow for awhile, a sign of an unhappy owner, but other than needing some TLC, it appears to be in reasonably good condition.

More Adventures in Sailboat Hunting

I was doing my usual thing, sifting the internet for sailboat ads, looking for something that might halfway meet my needs, when I ran across another ad for the Downeast 38 ketch in Hilton Head.  Remember now, I had already sent the broker two queries, and hadn't gotten a single reply.

This is the kind of disappointment...

you just have to expect.  It's now been over a week since I put in a query with the broker, about the Downeaster in SC, and I haven't heard anything from her.  Not one word.  I actually sent in the query twice, about two days apart, thinking that maybe something happened to the first one, but still with no results.

Starting the Journey

Before there can be a journey on the SV Event Horizon, there has to be a boat named Event Horizon!  There isn't one yet - at least with US Coast Guard documentation.  For what is the umpteenth time since my retirement last October, our plans for getting underway in the cruising lifestyle have had to be changed.
